4 Kitchen Gadgets Every Woman Needs

Once you move out of the dorms and into a real apartment/home of your own it’s time to buy some of those kitchen essentials you’ve been lusting after at all of your favorite stores (ahem I’m looking at you Anthropologie). Once you get all the necessities – glasses, silverware, plates, etc., it’s time to invest in some of the kitchen gadgets that will make your kitchen fully functional. Here are four kitchen gadgets that we think every woman needs.

1. Mixer

A KitchenAid is at the top of every girl’s wedding registry and/or Christmas list. If you spend a lot of time baking or you’re in the kitchen in general, a KitchenAid is well worth the investment. A high quality mixer will make life so much easier for you, especially with the variety of attachments! If you’re looking for a more affordable option, a handheld mixer will do the trick just fine too.

2. Large Cutting Board

Using a cutting board for cutting or simple food prep, like making a sandwich, makes clean up a breeze. Not only that, but you also save your precious countertops from getting scratched and bruised. Whether you opt for a classic wooden butcher block or a simpler cutting mat like this, having a large cutting board is something you won’t regret. I use mine every single day!

3. Chopper

This thing is small but mighty and saves so much time when cooking. As someone who eats a lot of veggies and cooks with vegetables often, the chopper makes dicing garlic, onions, bell peppers, carrots, and more a complete breeze. It’s also perfect for crushing nuts.

4. Blender

Everyone has their favorite brand of blender – Ninja versus Blendtec. Forget the name brands, the most important thing is that you invest in a blender with a strong blade. You can use your blender all year round – smoothies in the summer and soup in the winter. Blenders are also great for protein shakes, daiquiris, and hummus making.

These are all great choices! I think everyone should also have a garlic peeler! 🙂

    • Oh yes, my mom has that and it’s always so nice to use when I’m visiting her!

  • A large cutting board is really the need!

  • Hahaha all very true, and those amazing insta pics of some of the many kitchen products do no good to us, right! I love that large cutting board, never occurred to me that I need to buy one, but your posts tells me otherwise 😉
My knife is my favorite item in the kitchen, been using it for 5 years and still love it, it is not a fancy expensive one but a really tiny and inexpensive but great one! 🙂

    • Ohh a good knife should totally be on this list! I’d have to say our knives were my favorite wedding gift since I had never had really sharp knives beforehand – they make all the difference!

  • I have a hand mixer but I so want a real mixer! They are just so expensive but I know when I get one it will be worth it.

  • sigh I am missing two of those! But they are on my list!

  • Chrissa – Physical Kitchness

YES! I have all of these (some in multiples). Because I’m that crazy kitchen lady. Great post!

  • Great list! My KitchenAid mixer is my favorite thing!

That cutting board is exactly what i need!

  • Oh heck yes, I couldn’t agree more! I just LOVE my KitchenAid mixer, it’s heaven. Alas I don’t use it as often as I should because my husband didn’t want it sitting on the bench (he likes to hog all the bench space), but you’ve given me renewed hope in putting my case forward. It sits on the bottom shelf of our pantry and is way too heavy for me to bring up.

My husband was a chef in a former life, so he has a love affair for his chopping boards. We were gifted a beautiful end grain one as a wedding gift Kat last year, but he hasn’t oiled it yet, so we wet haven’t used it. I must remind him to do so.
Instead, he will prep on our Ikea wooden bench top butchers block on wheels. He loves that thing, it was the best $12 eBay purchase ever.

What we don’t have though is a chopper or a blender. A chopper isn’t needed because Alex is one of those people who goes chop chop chop chop chop and looks at you while you confine your conversation (did I mention I’m not the cook in our household!? Baker, on the other hand…)
We are in the market though for a blender and a food processor. It will make our lives so much easier in all areas of food prep when our baby arrives.

As for what kitchen gadget can’t I live without, I’m really not sure. I used to be a Tupperware consultant 10 years ago so I do love my Tupperware, but definitely can’t single out one thing.
